undertaken by POHDH
The activities
undertaken by the
Platform are
expressed around the four
(4) major programs: Education
in the Culture of Human
Rights, Judicial
Intervention, Human
Rights Observation and,
lastly, Analysis,
Reflection, Research and
Documentation.
I The
Programs of POHDH
Objectives of
the Education in the
Culture of Human Rights
Program
- To reinforce
the capacity of citizens
to exhibit behavior
favorable to the respect
for Human Rights,
- To instill
the concept of
citizenship qualities in
the population,
- To provide
the population with the
concepts necessary to
promote and defend Human
Rights.
Objectives of the
Judicial Intervention
Program
- To provide
citizens with legal
consultations, allowing
them to bring proceedings
against perpetrators in
front of judicial bodies,
- To accompany
the member institutions
within the framework of
their advocacy activities
to the official
authorities,
- To encourage
particular victims in
bringing forth their
complaints and offering
them various forms of
accompaniment.
Objectives of the
Human Rights Observation
Program
- To aid in
the reconstruct of the
heritage of Human Rights
by putting at the publics
disposal a large amount
of documentation,
- To
constitute a bank of
reliable data on the
operating mode of public
institutions, the prices
of basic necessity and
pharmaceutical products,
and transportation
conditions,
- To analyze
the Human Rights
situation in the country
and make recommendations
to the authorities.
Objectives of the
Research, Analysis,
Reflection and
Documentation Program
- To produce
research, analysis and
reflection on Human
Rights problems,
- To arrange
space for debates for the
purpose of pubic
reflection on particular
Human Rights themes,
- To support
research relative to
Human Rights problems.
II The
Public Services Offered
by POHDH
In the work of these
different programs, the
Platform of Haitian Human
Rights Organizations
(POHDH) offers the
following services to the
public:
Training
POHDH organizes, by the
request of civil society
groups, institutions or
organizations, training
seminars in human
rights. The
Platform also prepares
educational materials for
human rights
training.
Documentation
The Platform supports the
access to certain
documents, available in
paper form, sound,
images..., at the center
on the Human Rights
problems. The center is
open from Monday to
Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:30
p.m., for POHDHs
partner organizations,
NGOs, as well as other
popular, student, social
workers and all types of
professionals.
Legal
Consultation
The Platform
provides legal
consultation to the
general public, as well
as, victims in
particular.
POHDH also offers
legal accompaniment for
victims who desire to
bring complaints against
their persecutors to the
courts.
III The
Publications of POHDH
There are several
types of documents
published by the
Platform:
- Press
Releases,
- Onsite
Observation Reports,
- Thematic
Investigation Reports,
- Education
Materials intended for
Human Rights training,
- Information
Bulletin regarding the
Human Rights situation in
the country.
